He's also the Creator of "BLUEBLACK Thursdays (An after work Bar/Lounge Experience in Harlem) And serves as the Co-Founder of "The Attaché Alliance" for Professional Leadership & Development And he's in the beginning stages with his very own company "DirtyTwist Media" ® Launching in 2008...So be sure you watch out for this guy as he takes over the world one BOOK at a time ... Obsession
DLB: I'm obsessed with creativity and my laptop (LOL!) Funny but true...I need my computer...I don't even watch as much TV as I used to ...my laptop helps me run my business and contact people to make things happen...Communication is key to me because without communication how would people build there network and create the buzz...I'm obsessed with the unknown of creativity...I'm Obsessed with being up late one night and allowing the universe to spark that crazy & amazing idea in my head...I love it!

Honesty
DLB: When I hear the word Honesty...I think about being true to yourself...like Madonna said a long time ago in this Interview she did...she said something like...if you can be honest with yourself then the world and/or media can't attack you...like if someone asked her "did you kiss a girl?" and she replied yes, I did...so what?!.....And I loved her for that...that's real honesty...unapologetic rawness...Being Honest takes time to master and learn...it's a growing process for some people and others it comes naturally...I love being honest...it can be hard at times because you don't want to hurt anyone feelings but then again...they asked you to be honest....right?

Longevity
DLB: I like the word longevity because it shows strength and I believe when you have longevity it shows that your talent & creativity stood above all the rest because people will try their best to bring you down but when you exude real talent & strength...Absolutely no one can take that away from you and I pray that one day someone will look back and say..."That Damn Derrick...he did his thing" and the legacy will continue after I'm gone ( i.e.,the book club, the reading and the community coming together).....the longevity!

Advice
DLB: I love it and dislike it all in the same breathe...some advice is good and some I wish I never listened to but learning from your mistakes is good......I try my best to take something from every experience I've had...so I don't grow up bitter and regretful...So kiddies, allow your hearts & mind to filter out what's real and what's not...The best advice I've received has been from my family ( i.e., My Mother, My Sister. My Mentor & Best Friend) everybody else can kick rocks! (just kidding) Advice is good...it's a good piece of info to have before making a decision...

Love
DLB: For the last few months and coming into this New Year...I've learned to LOVE myself more and it's been a great ride...
Love is a wonderful feeling and what I've learned is that you don't need a significant other to know what love is...You can get love from your Family, Friends and Yourself first! And please love your passion and that special someone will come along...if he or she hasn't came already...Embrace "Love" and if "Love" hurts you one day....use that pain as a reference.........Learn it!

Ambition
DLB: Coming from a single parent home...having Ambition was all we had...My Mother along with GOD made things happen when I didn't think that it could...I was raised to have Ambition and a strong drive for what I want out of life and anything can happen if you want it bad enough...I'm here today because of it...

Perseverance
DLB: Like I said earlier...I try do my best to learn from my mistakes and my life definitely had it's ups and downs...to persevere took a lot for me because you never know what the universe is going to throw at you....especially when you're trying to get the Urban Gay Community in New York City to all come together and read a book...let alone talk about it. But without a doubt it's become one the greatest things I've ever created because the Derrick L. Briggs Book Club has definitely exceeded my expectations and now I challenge myself to bring the community what they want and what they need and that's a "Quality Experience"...

Attitude
DLB: It's all about Attitude...someone told me one day that...you can be talented all you want but if you have a bad attitude that will definitely kill the deal...so I discipline myself to keep it humble and always give a smile...Even when things are not going well...I will always have a smile on my face (except these pictures of me...LOL!) because the storm can only last but for so long. It is hard to stay humble but if you commit to having a happy life then you'll always give off that positive energy because energy is important...Especially to me...
(So keep a good attitude!)

Respect
DLB: Honor thy Mother and your days shall be longer...(that's from the bible for your religious people...LOL!) Respect others as you want them to Respect you and if that don't work...just yell..."RESPECT ME FOOL"...LOL!

Intelligence
DLB: Well...for someone that wasn't able to finish College due to financial set backs during my sophomore year...I've always thought that I wasn't ever going to be looked at as a respectable individual because I didn't carry a degree...however, after getting a prep talk from my Mentor who just got his PhD in Education Leadership and Organizational Studies...He confirmed for me that God had another agenda for me and after enjoying my short time at Delaware State University in Dover Delaware...I've learned Intelligence is beyond having book smarts and with Street Smarts and mist of spiritual adding of these ingredients together = All things are possible!

Sex
DLB: "Umm waiter...Check please!" Oh yeah...Sex!?! I love it!  I recommend that people have lots of it....just please be safe!
