LIGHTING CEREMONY OF THE OLYMPIC FLAME

First torchbearer, Alexandros Nikolaidis, a silver medalist in Taekwodo from the Athens 2004 Olympics, kneals before the "High Priestess" in the Ancient Stadium during the Lighting Ceremony of the Olympic Flame, in Olympia Greece yesterday.

As soon as Liu Qi, the president of Beijing's Olympics Organizing Committee started his speech, a demonstrator carrying a black flag with handcuffs used to symbolize the five Olympics rings, runed behind him.

This was of course unseen on Chinese television. instead the Chinese people have enjoyed some beautiful girls dancing under the olive trees ...

At the same time in China, a 54 years old man have been sentenced to five years in prison for protesting against the Beijing Olympics. Yang Chunlin gathered thousands of signatures on a petition about disputed land that read: “We don’t want the Olympics, we want human rights.” The unemployed factory worker said that he was trying to help local villagers, but he was detained and put on trial. i can't believe China of all countries was allowed to host the Olympics! what a horrible mistake this will be...there is so much corruption and human rights issues in China that this will be one of thee worst Olympics, i predict that there will be more bloodshed and embarrassment to come for China...

javajunkie, you don´t have a right to say that. All the information you got is from your media. Why don´t you learn some chinese, so that you can know what chinese people say. and then you can judge whatever you want.
