Shelter - The Premiere in Los Angeles
"When Shelter opens in theatres this March, audiences will not only get to see all forms of hot guys surf the California waves, but a surprisingly touching tale of love and family. In writer/director Jonah Markowitz's tender coming-of-age-in-the-surf-world drama, young Zach (Trevor Wright) must choose between family, his art and a new love that comes in the form of an older surf buddy, Shaun (Brad Rowe, Billy’s Hollywood Screen Kiss). Ah, decisions, decisions." source: frontiers
Forced to give up his dreams of art school, Zach spends his days working a dead-end job and helping his needy sister care for her son. In his free time he surfs, draws and hangs out with his best friend, Gabe, who lives on the wealthy side of town. When Gabe's older brother, Shaun, returns home, he is drawn to Zach's selflessness and talent. Zach falls in love with Shaun while struggling to reconcile his own desires with the needs of his family. summary by: Bill Stephens for IMDB.

I saw this movie at the Cleveland Film Festival; I highly recommend this movie to all movie goers. It is so well written, acted, and presented. I cannot wait to buy it on DVD to add to my collection. And the guys are not hard on the eyes either ;)

As I mentioned on the posting of "Eighteen," I FINALLY saw "Shelter" this weekend, and I, too, HIGHLY recommend it! It's such a sweet story, believable, and I'm not one to easily recommend gay films at all. Most gay films are tacky, stupidly written, poorly acted, awfully directed, and rely on inane gay stereotypes to deliver any sense of "fun" to a film.
But "Shelter" rises above with wonderful acting, a nice story, and a strong California feel. Once more, the story ties in another theme of structure and family values that adds potency to the film, while slapping middle-America in the face that gay men can be quality family men and father-figure types.
A sincerely great movie!!!

"Tan Lines" from Australia is also a good "gay" surf movie with an excellent story.
