TIBET, 50th ANNIVERSARY OF CHINESE INVASION, LHASA LOCKED DOWN BY CHINESE POLICE

On a less sexy note but much more important for us, the chinese police locked down Lhasa, the capital of Tibet. Police shot and killed at least 80 people, though Chinese authorities said just 10 people have died.
Today the Dalai Lama condemned what he called China's "rule of terror" and "cultural genocide" in Tibet, calling for an international probe into unrest in his homeland.

This international cowardice toward Tibet is unacceptable. The bloody repression of peaceful marches by Tibetans and their monks reminds the world of the ugly reality behind today's biggest dictatorship.
Vice-president Thomas Bach says a number of top athletes are considering boycotting the games in China over the bloody crackdown on protesters in Tibet. Of course, the International Olympic Committee wants a peaceful end to the violence in Tibet, and opposes an Olympic boycott.
The Chinese Government has blocked residents' access to YouTube after video reports of the protests in Tibet were posted on the website. But slowly more videos are taken down from the rest of the world to see because of "Terms of use violation" that can also be used to define the lack of freedom in Tibet ...
Having worked on the Tibet Resettlement Project here in San Francisco, I welcome your comments on the 50 year old Chinese occupation of Tibet and their blatant violation of the human rights of the peaceful people of Tibet.

freedom for Tibet!!!

I seriously doubt any athletes are high minded enough to boycott their chance at fame.
Yes, some fuss will be made about the atrocities China is creating in Tibet--but politics and money will win out. Everyone will forget about Tibet after a few days and the moronic excuse for corporate profit that is the Olympics will go on.

I like how sites like this think they're promoting a human rights issue while at the same time, isn't this site just about two gay guys and they're affection for stylish and expensive things in life? Hardly a lifestyle that is in support of helping OTHERS. Maybe the hosts here should just stick to pretty photos of men (aka. what they're best at).

Hey, you want to talk about Tibet here? Ok, firstly tell me, have you ever been to Tibet? no? ok, tell me, where did you get all your information about Tibet? CNN? Ok.
I am not going to discuss history or politics here, just let you know that, CNN and BBC are alweays biased. CNN reported Indian troops who beat Tibetans as Chinese ones. They reported it blindly.
CNN is a liar !!!

One more question, please.
do you remember the end of last year, some immigrants fired some cars in the suburb of Paris?
why France government sent troops to solve the problem is justice, but ONLY when Chinese government does the same thing, CNN, BBC, Chanel 4 and you guys are all blaming on China???
Why?
You have double standards?
Or only French could do this, Chinese can not?
talk about independence?
Free Corse first.

I think the Chinese Government did the right thing as any government would do in this situation. By the way, this is NOT a peaceful protest, if you really watch the video.

Talk about youtube, right?
OK, click the youtube link i sent here. Go there and see that video by yourself, PLEASE.
I am not letting you see the video, just look at the view counts, it is being blocked by Youtube, why? because youtube does not want this video to be shown on the welcome page, and a lot of comments in favour of China will be deleted automatically.
The view counts is being blocked at 100388 for 8 hours. is that the freedom, liberty you are talking about?
How ironic it is !!!

I have just a little quirk to say about.
Love the site, love you guys, but the blame is not all on China.
I am Chinese, and I dont feel that China should be in Tibet. However, no nation has made any significant warning or any major opposition to China that really "puts the crack down".
Chinas 'inhumane' actions are just as bad as any nation not willing to free people because their afraid of ruining diplomatic and financial relationships.

It's this you said " peaceful marches by Tibetans and monks"? Open your eyes please !
Posted by: Ringo | Sunday, 16 March 2008 at 06:20 PM
PLEASE. If you don't know what you are talking about, you should simply shut up or at least stay on FACTS. It is the mob who killed innocent civilians and torched stores and cars. They turned the city into the hell. The police was there to protect people and get things back to order. I couldn't believe people like you are so narrow-minded and brain washed even after you watched the video - hopefully you actually did.
Side note: Please learn some history even if you don't know much about your own country's history. But at least learn some history about things you talk about and 'care' I suppose. You can start here.

I've loved this blog for two years and I've been mostly grateful for the host couple sharing their experience and almost daily eye-candies. But today I'm curious to have found these comments on the issue of Tibet.
As far as I know, all major media's reports cited their pictures from the following blog by a Canadian tourist who is unfortunately right in Lhasa these days. Please check it if you're interested in it:
http://kadfly.blogspot.com/2008/03/more-from-lhasa.html
I was shocked that all reporters simply ignored the blogger's own comments, which clearly and calmly tell the fact that the monks' demonstration is not "peaceful", and they keep attacking not only the police and soldiers but also innocent individuals, violently and bloodily. His video that supports the fact was also ignored. The blogger helplessly reminded the media to take notes of what he wrote, but it seems that all media have reached a consensus to tailoring the photos while adding textual comments opposing what the innocent owner's intentions. I think this says something, and is easy to check.
As for the CNN report titled "free Tibet", I found it so funny that the reporter talked about China's dictatorship so long in front of a backdrop constantly displaying Indian forces. If it was a mistake by the program maker, it had to be a funny one, since the Indians look so differently from the Chinese. And almost all authentic videos that I've been able to find show the violence of the monks. There are a bunch of them on Youtube, and they are curiously censored.
I'm uneasy so see surges of angry comments by the Chinese throughout the Internet. Most comments are so emotional and impolite that they easily slide into irrationality. I hope all of us, westerners and Chinese alike, would embrace truths and facts, and show more respect to each other. The communist dictatorship has a long way to go in issues of human right respect, but this time, the facts seem to show that the western media are also distant from the impartiality and authenticity that they claimed.

Why do I have the feeling that only chinese people are commenting on this entry !!!?
Posted by: Mark | Sunday, 16 March 2008 at 10:05 PM
guest from NY--I am NOT Chinese but I agree with you--most of the comments are frighteningly biased and pro-China--sickening. Not to mention ungrammatical.
It amazes me that so many of you losers are obsessed with the non-peaceful nature of the protests. Who !@#$ cares if the monks are getting violent--more power to them. China needs to get OUT!
And those of you with your dicks in your hands--shut up about this blog devoting itself exclusively to nude men. Morons.
