LINKALICIOUS // 05.26.08 SYDNEY POLLACK HAS DIED

This morning we have received a very sad e-mail from our friend Ralph who has been working with Sydney Polack and Minghella for years that today would probably be the end for Sydney :-( Last night we have been watching Recount which was Sydney Polack's last film as an executive producer.

Sydney Pollack, the actor, producer and Academy Award-winning director of Tootsie and Out of Africa, who used love stories, politics and humor to explore loss and human frailty, has died. He was 73.

Pollack died at his Pacific Palisades home after battling cancer. Bloomberg

"Sydney Pollack has made some of the most influential and best-remembered films of the last three decades," LA Times

His biggest triumph came with 1985's Out Of Africa. Based on Isak Dinesen's 1937 memoir, the film starred Meryl Streep as the Danish owner of a coffee plantation in Kenya and Robert Redford as the American-born adventurer she falls in love with. The movie earned 11 Academy Award nominations in all and seven wins, including Pollack's Oscars for best picture and director. ABC News
