O.H.L.A.L.A. INTERVIEW WITH ALEC MAPA
Please welcome comedian Alec Mapa, a gay boy from San Francisco aka Suzuki St. Pierre in Ugly Betty, Vern in Desperate Housewives ... “Growing up in San Francisco in the 70's was like watching the last 10 minutes of the Roman Empire,” he said. “I had a schizophrenic upbringing, coming from a conservative Filipino Catholic family, yet we’d go to the Castro Street Fair. I loved growing up there, because the diversity was so great in the seven by seven miles. It makes you less fearful of other people and cultures.“
As an out, gay actor, Mapa often donates his time to numerous causes benefiting AIDS and the Gay and Lesbian communities. Photos by Mike Ruiz.
Obsessions:
My iphone! I'm like Gollum and my iphone's The Ring. I stare at it for hours and I'll bite your head off if you snatch it away. MY PRECIOUS!! I'm a total facebook /myspace junkie right now. I'm also obsessed with my Louis Vuitton carry on luggage cause I'm a great big homo.

I've missed out on a lot of good times by labeling people. Lord knows tons have dismissed me with a label so it's taught me to give people more of a chance. Porn stars are people too.
Adam Sandler:
He is the star of a movie I'm in called "You Don't Mess With The Zohan". We went to NYU together and he was always very nice to me. I play a gay hairdresser who Big stretch. I got to keep my extensions. In theaters June 6.
Los Angeles:
Is where gay boys have a reputation for being stuck up. They're not. They're just terrified of looking stupid. Make the first move, say hello and you'll see they're super friendly. It took me years to discover this . Now I have a million hot , sweet boy friends I absolutely love.
Ambition:
Growing up different made me ambitious . When I think of all the places I've been and all the people I've met , and all the things I've gotten to do just for being queer, I feel nothing but gratitude. If I were straight my life would be much less colorful. Watch me and Naomi Campbell on the season finale of Ugly Betty! I LOVE BEING GAY!!
