A voice! Finally this Genre magazine has its voice.

I had found it difficult to differentiate between all the gay rags - Instinct prides itself as being a young title focused on humor and is tailored to the high school kid who just wants to find out how to get the right acne cream for his first date.

OUT looks at women and men and through the eyes of no one that I would ever be Britney, Marc Jacobs - and Genre actually takes a peak at life through my eyes, taking me, the reader into consideration -- asking me what I need to lead an adult gay life.
Hats off!!

I forgot to mention the grand-daddy of them all, the Advocate. Although it has lowered the quality of its paper (tissue-like) and has really re-directed its efforts to tailor to the lesbian pop-culture, it has remained a top choice on my list for more than 30 years.

The Advocate was the first gay (it was all gay in the old days) magazine I read as I was coming out. When I worked in DC we read the Blade, too -- we cannot find a hard copy in SFO -- but still read it online. But as for magazines, I hope that the new company that bought the Advocate for a song -- takes care of this historic document. I read through OUT and Advocate recently, and almost every ad is about HERE TV and Alison Books -- it is a propaganda piece for the new owners (BRING BACK THE OLD ADVOCATE you arrogant, self-serving, ego driven self-servers.
