Those photos are from the opening of the gay and lesbian community's summer at a beach near Havana. Much has changed in Cuba since the 60s when homosexuals were sent to work camps, or the 70s when gay men and women were denied certain jobs as "ideological deviants."

Today Cuba has authorised sex-change operations and will offer them free to qualifying citizens, officials say.
