OHLALA GETS PERSONAL WITH JASON WALKER

Jason Walker’s debut album, This Is My Life, produced three consecutive #1s, making the handsome out singer one of only a handful of young male artists capable of breaking through to a global dance audience. Those songs of life and love, delivered in an octave well above any other male artist in pop music, proved conclusively that the small-scale can strike a universal chord. Fans have been anxious for more and now, at last, a new single, “Can’t Stop”, is set to hit stores this week.




Has anyone told you that you resemble Maroon 5 singer Adam Levine?


I’m laughing right now. It happens quite often actually, and the funny thing is, I don't think I look anything like him. But hey, he's a star, so I'll take it.


We read you were discovered on a TV competition show called Its Show Time At The Apollo.

That’s true. The Apollo Theater is a famous theatre in Harlem, NYC. Many of the greatest legends have graced its stage. Everyone from Patti La Belle and Aretha Franklin to Lauren Hill...

What was a skinny white boy doing on a show taped in Harlem?

It was an amazing experience and one of the best and scariest nights of my life. The audience yelled some really hateful things at me when I walked out on to the stage. Things like "go home white boy". Then I started to sing and everything changed.

What did you sing?

I sang "Get Here" from Oleta Adams.

Did you win?

Damn right, I did. The show launched my career.

Tell us about your new single. It’s a cover called "Can't Stop". I recorded the track with producer Quentin Harris, whom I absolutely adore. He is the best thing to happen to dance music. 
 You also have a new music video out. Yes, for my last track, "I Can't Get You Off My Mind". It was shot by Karl Giant, another creative genius.
