PROP 8 PASSES! GAY MARRIAGE CLOSE TO BEING OUTLAWED IN CALIFORNIA
A sad news this morning! Voters in California have almost passed Proposition 8 leading with nearly 52 percent of the vote. The proposition defines marriage as between a man and a woman and bans gay marriages.
Elsewhere in the country, two other gay marriage bans, in Florida and Arizona, were well ahead.
This issue CANNOT BE a state by state issue, and with Barack Obama as our new president, things may be in our favor. Obama could not run as a gay activist for presidency but the man is for equal rights. The last time American people had rights taken away from them was with Prohibition and that didn’t work, so time will tell and the fight goes on!
As I type this post, there are still votes to be counted. It's not over until it's over, so who knows ... anything can happen this is America after all!
Sad news.
I wouldn't put my hopes on Obama at this point in time. As a religious man, he is not necessarily in support of gay marriage (although he is a supporter of equal rights). Obama has a great deal of challenges directly ahead of him, and he will need as much support as he can get to fix, for instance, the economy. That includes support of conservatives. He can't afford to offend too many conservatives already and, as such, he is unlikely to make a move on gay marriage any time soon.
On the bright side: while we wait for America, we will always have the Netherlands.

Don't forget that Massachusetts and Connecticut still have gay marriage rights. Could there be a mass migration to the east?

Exit polls for The Associated Press found that Proposition 8 received critical support from black voters who flocked to the polls to support Barack Obama for president. About seven in 10 blacks voted in favor of the ban, while Latinos also supported it and whites were split.
Is gay the new black? It is sad that apparently African-Americans like other minorities before them are only interested in equal rights for themselves.

As I recall, Obama said on Ellen's show he was at least in favor of legal Civil Unions for gay people to be granted similar rights as marriage. Obviously there are many issues to face before he gets to this.
At least the country turned down McCain/Palin- Palin had said she wanted a national ban on gay marriage, like W. Bush once said. In 2004 McCain was against it but if Palin took over anything could have happened.
It took hundreds of years for America to move from stopping slavery to electing a Black president. In between were laws and amendments banning or limiting Black rights, such as legalized segregation and voting taxes and tests.
Sadly many minorities like to have someone to feel superior to, it'll take time but I have hope that the nation will grow up someday.
