20 OHLALA MOVIES OF 2008 !
AND THE OHLALASCAR GOES TO...

It is that time of the year when all the self proclaimed move critics and other movie lovers are doing their top 10 lists, so we have decided to put the list of 20 movies that have moved us in 2008. Why 20 ? Simply because this year was exceptionally rich in great movies and secondly, how else would we differ from others ;-)

20 The Visitor - Strange, brave, crazy ? This movie is asking all the right questions, and will shake every certainty that you have in your life.

19 In Bruges - Entertaining and undeniably fun, and colin Farrell is really sexy in it. The move makes you want to visit Bruges and it is worth it.

18 Burn After Reading - Plane fun, and really sexy. What would you expect from a move with George Clooney and Brad Pit.

17 Milk - This is an important feature film, and it is nicely executed, but what ultimately carries the movie is Sean Peen, and the story itself.

16 Blindness - Very little people took time to discover this multilayered story that has some great reasoning. We loved it and it kept us thinking for weeks about how fragile we humans are.

15 WALL-E - We are just not that much into animation movies but this one is one of the best ever made.

14 The Bank Job - We have all dreamt of it one day, but it never turned into a nightmare like this. This is the reason why we go to movies : to dream.

13 The Class - Real, Strong and Eyes Opening. Everybody should see this movie.

12 Mamma Mia! - I feel like dancing just thinking about it, and it is not just the music. This movie is plane fun.

11 Rachel Getting Married - Bold and rough, but true and troubling. It gets as close as possible to the real life without being a "reality show", and still maintains the movie quality to it.

10 Sex and the City - OK so here us out. We loved the show, and were not expecting the big screen version to match it, but we were there for a big surprise. The movie is even better than the show.

9 Tropic Thunder - It is hilarious and more than that, it shows perfectly that Tom Cruise can be really funny (when not acting crazy). The rest of the cast is just over the top, and will make perfect oscar nomination (sensing Iron anybody?).

8 Frost/Nixon - I wouldn't think that this hollywood take on Frost/Nixon interviews would be so entertaining. I still can not believe this really happened (sometimes reality is topping the imagination).

7 The Reader - Emotionally challenging, visually beautiful, and still making you think. We have to see it again...

6 Doubt - There is no doubt that Meryl Streep is the best actress on earth, but more than that DOUBT is a masterpiece to be savored carefully as it can be addictive.

5 The Dark Knight - Batman and the Joker, the ultimate good and evil or are they ? It does get darker than that.. and once you start to watch it, you are in for an breathtaking ride.

4 Vicky Cristina Barcelona - Only Woody Allen can pull something like this of ... and make it art and entertainment. The characters are as gorgeous, complex and engaging as the city itself. The movie itself is exquisite and pushing the limits of politically correct, but still beautifully light and deadly entertaining.

3 Iron Man - Robert Downey Jr. has kicked off an amazing career comeback with this exciting action flick. What makes this movie exceptional are several layers of personality that Robert portrays perfectly, and an engaging story.

2 The Curious Case of Benjamin Button - This epic, is touching, romantic, beautiful and biensure curious. Amazing cast, even better movie.

And the OHLALASCAR goes to:

The result in the second part of the post.

Slumdog Millionaire

Nothing short of a Chef-d'ouvre, even though we did not like the story when we first heard about it, we left the cinema without doubt that we have seen the best movie of 2008. Danny Boyle is one of the most talented directors out there and he did an excellent job creating an unique movie-going experience.

Comments

Yes, yes, yes.

why no shelter?

Hey Kef,

We did not see all the movies that were out this year and unfortunately we did not get to see Shelter, hens the lack of mentioning it on this list.

Thank you for taking time to read our list.

Great seeing Blindness and In Burges in your list. Can't wait to see The Class. No mention of A Christmas Tale (Un Conte de Noel)? You guys didn't like it?

Here's to more great films and hot guys this year! ;p

Burn After Reading = another big joke after all the Ocean craps.
