NEW YEAR! SAME OLD STORY ...
Once again I am ashamed to report that the award for the worst New Year's celebration goes to France! But we will go back to that in a minute. Sydney was just amazing and this city should be on top of everyone's list. Below a compilation of the celebrations around the world.
I love how they like to traumatize dogs in Japan! Isn't this the cutest geisha you've ever seen !?
Ok now let me set the record straight for Paris. DON'T EVER GO THERE FOR NEW YEAR'S EVE! There is nothing to see. It's as simple as that!
I have just read an article about the 10 best things to do for New Year's eve. And I think the woman who wrote that should be fired!
City Number 3: Go for a picnic at Paris’ Champs Elysées – The best pick if you are in Paris. Get a view of the Eiffel Tower from the Champs-Elysees and see the fireworks too. [Examiner]
Nobody does picnic on the freezing Champs Elysees, as you can see below people barely can walk around. They come with a bottle of champagne (and btw this year glass bottles were forbidden) So they come with a pack of beer, tres chic, and they get drunk!
But the best part or should I say worst part of her stupid suggestion is when she says "Get a view of the Eiffel Tower from the Champs-Elysees" good luck getting that! You don't see the Eiffel Tower from the Champs Elysees, and even if you could see it, there are NO FIREWORKS in Paris ... never !!!! Just the regular Eiffel Tower sparkling every hour. Shame on France and Paris the number one tourist destination in the world!
But there is a tradition and this one is getting stronger year after year. Burning cars! Last night 1147 cars were burned down in France, 30% more than the previous year!
Another place where nothing spectacular is happening (but at least they don't burn cars) is Los Angeles, they do have a few small fireworks around like in Disneyland but nothing grandiose.
So like most of the people in this town we stayed home and celebrate the new year with Donald, Francis, and two friends from Paris Geraldine and Jerome. We stayed warm inside most of the night but did go by the pool at 11.58 for about 10 minutes to pop a bottle of champagne and take a few pictures :-)
I love that you guys included Seattle, my home town. Just a quick note from not that great of a speller himself......Seattle has two t's .....Love you guys.
