MADONNA ARRIVES TO MALAWI
The jet carrying Madonna landed at the Kamuzu International Airport in Malawi's capital Lilongwe today ahead of a court examination this week of her bid to adopt a second Malawian child, a girl called Mercy James.
Madonna and her daughter Lourdes were showed the site of the new school she is helping to build in the village of Chinkhota.
Madonna had an appointment with a judge in Malawi today in the hope that the adoption papers will be signed. The uncles claimed they would agree only if Mercy would be returned to them once she had completed her education and had a career.
Mercy’s grandmother Lucy, who is in her 70s and too frail to attend court said: ‘I can see how life could be different for her living in a rich family but I have to face the possibility of never seeing her again.’ [source]
It must be hard for the family to let go a kid even if you know it is for the best, but if Mercy returns to the US with Madonna she will receive the best education and she will grow up as a stronger and more powerful person to be able to change things in her own birth country when she will be in age to do so.
