In 2006, the Class of 2009, which will graduate Friday, scaled the Herndon Monument in 1:14:15. Yes this year came close but not enough to become the record breaker. Legend has it that the plebe who scales the monument will be the first of his class to achieve the rank of admiral, though there is no record of this legend ever coming true.
