2009 GAY PRIDE IN TEL AVIV
Today on the other side of the world about 20,000 people took part in the annual Gay Pride parade in Tel Aviv.
Isreal repealed a ban on consensual same-sex sexual acts in 1988 and as the heart of Israel's cultural life and a bastion of secularism, Tel Aviv has been hosting the annual parade for the past nine years with relatively few objections from the country's religious community, unlike similar events in Jerusalem which saw violence and even one stabbing.
Five homosexual couples were married in a special ceremony during the festivities, event tho same-sex marriage is not legal in the country.
Talking about Tel Aviv and the gay Pride, Madonna has announced that she will performing in Tel Aviv as the final stop on her second Sticky & Sweet tour (starting in London on the 4th of July). 16 years have passed since her last performance (The Girly Show) in Israel [source] the concerts will take place September 1 and 2 in Tel Aviv’s Hayarkon Park.
