THE CANALS OF VENICE CALIFORNIA
One of the reasons why we love LaLaLand is that you can find so many different places to get away from your daily routine, this weekend after Paradise Cove in Malibu we went to a closer beach, Venice. It's always fun to go there, and it was a long time since we escaped the beach front to walk along the Venice Canals.
I am going to have my did you know moment but did you know that the town that would eventually become Venice was originally established in 1822 by pioneer Walter Thompson!? In 1836 gold was discovered in Venice and the town was quickly flooded by prospectors from around the world. Then Abbot Kinne a millionaire founded Venice of America in 1905 as a beach resort. Los Angeles had neglected Venice so long that, by the 1950s, it had become the "Slum by the Sea."
It's only in 1994 after nearly thirty years of talks that Los Angeles renovated the six remaining canals for $6,000,000. Today the canals are a quaint upscale neighborhood with houses for sale over $2.000.000.
Besides a group of Japanese tourists taking enough photos to cover every inches of the place , it was pretty nice and quiet we forgot how nice it is to walk along the canals and how pleasant it is to be away from the craziness of the beach front for an hour! More photos in the gallery below.
