FASHION DESIGNER ALEXANDER MCQUEEN HAS DIED
It is a sad day for the fashion world as we learn that Fashion Designer Alexander McQueen (40) has died. The reports are still coming in but the new has been already confirmed by his publicist. R.I.P.
CNN: Alexander McQueen's death comes just days before the start of London fashion week
Just in from AP: British fashion designer Alexander McQueen, 40, has been found dead at his London home. His company's communications director, Samantha Garrett, says McQueen's body was found Thursday morning, but she had no further information.
The Daily Mail notes that McQueen's death comes just days after the death of his mother.
NT Times: The cause was apparently suicide, though Mr. Filipowski said Mr. McQueen’s family had not yet made a statement. Though he apprenticed on Savile Row, Mr. McQueen, who was 40, thumbed his nose at the conventions of English style by staging often lavish runway productions that included clothes made with animal bones, and models made to look as if they were patients in a mental ward or participants in a life-size chess match. Yet he was a tailor of the highest order, making impeccably shaped suits that were also surprisingly commercial. But Mr. McQueen’s troubled personal life was often the subject of concern among his colleagues and close friends. He was deeply affected when Isabella Blow, the eccentric stylist who discovered and championed the designer, committed suicide in 2007, and he was said to be devastated by the death of his mother on Feb. 2.
BBC: Alexandra Shulman, editor of British Vogue, said Mr McQueen had influenced a whole generation of designers. She added: "His brilliant imagination knew no bounds as he conjured up collection after collection of extraordinary designs."His death is the hugest loss to anyone who knew him and for very many who didn't." A Metropolitan Police spokesman said: "We were called by London Ambulance Service at about 10.20am this morning to reports of a man found dead at an address in Green Street, W1. "He is believed to be 40-years-old and from London. Next of kin have been informed, however we await formal identification before releasing the name of the deceased. "A post mortem examination and inquest will take place in due course. "The death is being treated as non-suspicious."

Its always sad when people who have achieved so much in their lives decide to end it all. I really have a hard time understanding why they'd do such a thing...I suppose the pain of loss of too many loved ones is more powerful than I know.
