Pierre Cardin is such an iconic and classic French maison de couture … this Italian-French designer was known for his avant-garde style, you may have heard of the famous bubble dress that was introduced in 1954, Pierre Cardin was so obssessed with bubbles that he built his very own bubly and unique house on the French Riviera.
I remember when I was a kid in growing up in France in the 80's that wearing Pierre Cardin was super chic and très tendance. My mother who was not saving money on designer clothes was a big fan of Pierre Cardin.
But somhow through the years the prestige of Pierre Cardin faded. Probably because of the image of the company itself becoming dusty which was ironic for someone so avant-garde. But time and trends can sometimes be faster than the speed of light … and catching up may require a couple of decades.
That is maybe one of the reasons why today there is no Pierre Cardin store standing proud between YSL and Chanel on Rodeo Drive in Berverly Hills. I mean the Pierre Cardin store at the corner of Rue du Faubourg St Honoré and Avenue de marigny in Paris is a piece of fashion history, it's like looking at the future of design from the 50's … it's in fact so dated that it became cool. Trust me if you are will be visiting Paris soon, pay a visit to this store!!!
Today I am sure that the label is working hard to regain his status of élegance and fame and I love this new campaign photographed by Tim Petersen featuring Andrew Barton, Jacey Elthalion and Davina Pellegri.
More photos from Pierre Cardin summer 2012 campaign after the jump.
