Almost as popular as the Beaujolais nouveau, the Dieux du Stade calendar is a sort of worldwide annual event promoting the good products of France :-)

French photographer François Rousseau shot for the second time the hunky French Rugby players. 42 photos and a poster. Not only the Stade is giving a preview of what's inside this new edition but we also have a video to share with vous.

Dark, viril, pictural and with elements close to the nature ... indeed ... I mean closer to that horse on the picture above would be kind of inappropriate!

It was announced back in May, the upcoming 2011 Dieux Du Stade calendar was shot by Francois Rousseau for the second time. On the cover, 27 year-old Dimitri Szarzewski. All I can say is that I do not think it will ever be possible to top the fantastic 2010 calendar delivered by Tony Duran [VGL] That being said, a naked French rugbymen remains a naked French rugbymen ...

FRANCOIS ROUSSEAU TO SHOOT THE 2011 DIEUX DU STADE CALENDAR

A reliable OhLaLa source has informed us that the next Dieux du Stade calendar photographer will be Francois Rousseau who will become the second photographer to shoot the Dieux du Stade calendar for the second time!

After Kris Gautier who did the first two calendars in 2001 and 2002, Mathias Vriens in 2003, Francois Rousseau shot the French rugby players back in 2004 ... 7 years later he is ready to do it all over again!

After ten years devoted to painting, François Rousseau turned to photography in 1995. Through his personal projects, he discovered Patrick Grainville's novel, L’Atelier du Peintre (The Painter’s Studio) when it came out in 1988. This novel presented him with a myth of Los Angeles which inhabited and mesmerized him for years. He was struck by the relationship of the painter to his models, of different backgrounds, who posed in the studio. It was as if the models had waited to be born and even chosen by the master.

Today, 20 years later, the photographer whom he has become today, with the help of his models, brought the novel to life. He visually recreated the characters and the novel's key moments. Los Angeles became the backdrop showing the diversity of its deprived yet glorious bodies.

Mikael Karlsson composed the accompanying music for Atelier. “Life Class”, a 25-minute piece of contemporary music for chamber orchestra and is in no way ambient music, but rather, a vital part of the project. You have to check out the video below!



The photos from Atelier are part of an exhibition at the Maison européenne de la photographie in Paris until April 5th 2009. We have for you an exclusive look at the book in the gallery below.
