The site News of the World just published a picture of 14-times Olympic gold medal winner Michael Phelps caught with cannabis pipe. See the photo HERE

It was on November 6, weeks after his Beijing triumph, that 23-year-old Phelps surprised students at the University Of South Carolina in Columbia by showing up unannounced at a house party.

The US Olympics Committee, who have pledged to clamp down on drug use, refused to comment, as did USA Swimming and Phelps’ coach Bob Bowman.

Apparently spokesman Clifford Bloxham offered an extraordinary deal to News of the World not to publish the story saying Phelps would become their columnist for three years, host events and get his sponsors to advertise with them!

I personally think people should give him a break!

UPDATE: Michael Phelps has acknowledged that the photo showing him smoking marijuana from a bong is real. He released this statement:

"I engaged in behavior which was regrettable and demonstrated bad judgment. I'm 23 years old and despite the successes I've had in the pool, I acted in a youthful and inappropriate way, not in a manner people have come to expect from me. For this, I am sorry. I promise my fans and the public it will not happen again."

After his latest endorsement for Guitar Hero [Michael Phelps is a Guitar Hero] Michael Phelps recently went back to China where he made Olympic history to shoot a TV commercial for the new Mazda6 model at the Water Cube in Beijing for a sweet $1 million deal.
