Since living in Los Angeles I am not really "à la page" when it comes to new songs ... so when I went back to France for a short family visit a couple of months ago, I was really pleased listening to one of my favorite French singers, Jenifer, the song is called sur le fil and it's been playing loud and non-stop in our house all day :-) Listen to the song and watch the video below ...
I am a big fan of Jenifer since day one, it all started in 2001, when she won the French singing competition called Star Academy, it was like American Idol (only it was before American Idol) with an extra reality tv twist. On top of the weekly live singing competition we could watch the contestants daily on their various trainings and in house dramas.
Beyoncé's tour begins April 15 is Belgrade, Serbia. She will hit Paris, France on the 25th at the great Bercy (I used to love seeing Madonna there, it is a small venue, so much better then the awful gigantic Stade de France she has been doing for the past couple of tours). Beyoncé will then make it to the US on June 28 starting with Los Angeles. See all the tour dates here.
Beyoncé has released a royal trailer ofr her UK fans, check out the video below featuring the French dancers Larry and Laurent aka les Twins.
Oscar-winning French actress Marion Cotillard joins the Barcelona Symphony Orchestra for a performance of Honegger's Jeanne d'Arc au Bûcher, broadcast live on medici.tv [Saturday Nov. 17, 2012 7pm Paris, 10 am Los Angeles]
"By Swiss composer Arthur Honegger, Jeanne d’Arc au Bûcher (1938) is an imposing oratorio. Unlike other banal versions of the myth, the libretto is a highly original creation by French poet and playwright Paul Claudel, who perfectly dramatises the last moments of the martyr's life. Honegger highlights all the anguish and tension of Joan's interrogation and subsequent execution. Originally written for actress Ida Rubinstein, an excellent ballerina and actress who was the first to perform the part, the oratorio is written as a flashback in which Joan recalls her life, just before she dies. A great film composer, Honegger creates visually evocative ambiances and fills the orchestra with new sounds (saxophones, ondes Martenot). The initial prologue to the piece was added in 1944 as a symbol of the resistance during the Nazi occupation of France: again, Joan goes beyond her own story."
Don't worry if you missed it the performance will be visible on the website for 90 days.
The 2012 Eurovision song contest (a one night stand "American Idol" like contest for European countries) took place this past Saturday. Over 120 million viewers and one winner, Loreen representing Sweden with her song Euphoria. If you think you will never hear this song here in the US you are wrong, the remix is likely to play over and over for months in all A&F stores around the country ;-) Listen to Euphoria below:
As for France ... well, Eurovision is more than just a song contest it is also a geopolitical vote and unless (like Sweden) you have a song that everybody is gonna love, you will get the "popular" votes (countries voting for their favorite neighbor, knowing you cannot vote for your own country) ...
Like every year France is not getting much love, just like the UK, France reigns at the Eurovision as one of the 5 countries that will be always represented, no matter what, when the other countries have to go through pre-selections to make it to the finals which is not the way to make friends among other countries. Yes, it's like the Game of Thrones of European singers, and every year France get its head chopped and put on a stick as a warning sign for the future (you will never win another contest!).
This year France was represented by a talented and beautiful singer Anggun. You may remember that we posted her great video back in March [Watch France Hot Official Music Video For Echo By Anggun]
Check out Anggun's live performance with some impressive (and hot looking) dancers/gymnasts. Her dress was made by Jean Paul Gaultier ... pretty hot too!
The runner up this year, Russia’s group 'Buranovskiye Babushki' (Buranovo Grannies) who clearly got the Miss Congeniality vote ... as for the other contestants, it was just another classic Eurovision song contest kind of night ... Congratulation to Serbia for taking an honorable 3rd pace. You can listen to Serbian song HERE.
I have been hearing Carly Rae Jepsen's song 'Call Me Maybe' for weeks on the radio but never paid attention to the music video ...
